S800 I/O Backplane and Isolation Characteristics

The DI828 interfaces with the S800 I/O ModuleBus and draws current from the +5 V ModuleBus supply. It does not consume +24 V ModuleBus current. Therefore, system power calculations should use the specified typical 45 mA and maximum 60 mA +5 V values.

Each input channel provides individual electrical isolation. In addition, the signal path incorporates current limiting components, EMC protection, an optical isolation barrier, an analog filter, and a channel-state LED. Consequently, external 120 V a.c./d.c. input signals remain separated at the channel interface.

The module supports selectable digital filtering at 2.5 ms, 5 ms, 10 ms, or 20 ms nominal settings. The analog filter provides 5 ms ON delay and 10 ms OFF delay. These filtering stages determine how rapidly an input transition reaches the digital processing path.

Process Voltage Supervision

Channel 1 can supervise the process voltage for channels 2 through 8. Similarly, channel 16 can supervise the process voltage for channels 9 through 15.

When voltage supervision is enabled and the voltage at channel 1 or channel 16 disappears, the module sets the corresponding channel error condition. The Warning LED then indicates the supervision fault, while the error status becomes available through the ModuleBus.

The supervision arrangement therefore provides group-level process-voltage monitoring without requiring a separate supervision input for every channel.
