ABB S800L I/O and Backplane Interface
The DI802 operates as an 8-channel digital input module within the ABB S800L I/O architecture. Each channel combines current-limiting components, EMC protection, an input-state LED, and an optical isolation barrier.
The module receives its internal operating power through the +5 V Modulebus connection and specifies a 50 mA current consumption. It does not require +24 V Modulebus or external +24 V supply current according to the supplied specifications.
Furthermore, the selectable digital filtering supports 2, 4, 8, or 16 ms settings. This allows the input processing to accommodate different field signal characteristics while reducing unwanted transient state changes.
The DI802 provides channel status indication through individual input LEDs. In addition, the module provides status indication for module faults, module warnings, and channel errors. Channel 8 provides process voltage supervision.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How many digital input channels does the ABB DI802 provide?
A: The DI802 provides 8 individually isolated digital input channels for 120 V AC/DC signal acquisition.
Q: What field voltage ranges does the DI802 accept?
A: The AC input accepts 77-130 V AC for logic “1”, while the DC input accepts 75-145 V DC for logic “1”.
Q: Does the DI802 require an external 24 V supply?
A: No. The supplied data specifies 0 mA consumption from both the +24 V Modulebus and +24 V external supply connections.
Field Installation Guidelines
Install the DI802 in accordance with the ABB S800L mechanical installation arrangement and applicable electrical installation standards.
- Verify the field voltage before connecting each input channel.
- Keep AC and DC field wiring separated from low-level analog and communication wiring where practical.
- Maintain the specified maximum field cable lengths for AC and DC circuits.
- Use supported conductor sizes from 0.05-2.5 mm2 for solid conductors and 0.05-1.5 mm2 for stranded conductors.
- Apply the specified terminal torque of 0.5-0.6 Nm.
- Strip conductors to approximately 6-7.5 mm before termination.
- Use appropriate protective routing for field cables in electrically noisy environments.
- Connect cable shields according to the plant grounding scheme and applicable EMC practices.
- Confirm that the installation environment remains within the specified temperature, humidity, pollution, and IP20 conditions.
- Verify channel LEDs and module diagnostic indications after energization.
- Check process voltage supervision on channel 8 when commissioning the module.
