The TU839 extends ABB S800 I/O installation flexibility through direct ModuleBus distribution and field wiring termination. It transfers ModuleBus communication signals to the connected I/O module and the following MTU position. In addition, the unit shifts outgoing position signals to generate the correct address for the installed I/O module.

The unit provides eight isolated I/O channels, with each channel containing two I/O terminals. Furthermore, it supports two isolated process power groups for sensor supply distribution. Each group includes a 200 mA fuse to protect connected field devices.

The TU839 uses ABB S800 I/O mechanical keying technology to prevent incorrect I/O module insertion. Two mechanical keys provide 36 possible configuration combinations through six positions per key. This configuration only controls mechanical compatibility and does not modify electrical operation.
