Overview
The FCP270 is a Field Control Processor Module for the Foxboro I/A Series distributed control system (DCS). It executes configured control logic, sequencing and equipment interlocks while coordinating connected fieldbus and I/O functions. Furthermore, it uses an AMD Elan 520 processor running at 100 MHz, with 16 MB SDRAM and 32 MB flash memory for control program execution and storage.
Control Processing and System Operation
The FCP270 executes configured control blocks and manages communication with connected field devices. It supports up to 4,000 configured blocks and a minimum block processing cycle (BPC) of 50 ms. Meanwhile, its distributed processing architecture allows the controller to coordinate process I/O and control functions within the I/A Series system.
The module supports up to 128 200 Series Fieldbus Modules (FBMs), subject to system sizing. Therefore, the actual I/O capacity depends on the configured application and overall controller loading.
Communication Interfaces
The FCP270 uses HDLC for module fieldbus communication, with transmission rates of 2 Mbps or 268 Kbps. In addition, its 100 Mbps fiber Ethernet control network interface provides communication with the distributed control system.
These interfaces serve different communication functions: HDLC handles module fieldbus communication, while Ethernet provides connectivity to the control network.
