Overview
The Triconex 4353 is a copper Tricon Communication Module manufactured by Invensys for Tricon safety systems running version 10.3 and later. It provides Ethernet and serial communication interfaces for data exchange between the Tricon system and external devices. Furthermore, its embedded OPC server supports up to 10 clients, allowing external applications to access Tricon data through standard OPC services.
Communication Interfaces
The 4353 provides two RJ-45 copper Ethernet ports and four DB-9 serial ports. Its Ethernet interfaces support 100BaseT twisted-pair connections at 100 Mbps. Meanwhile, the serial interfaces support both RS-232 and RS-485, with a maximum transmission rate of 115.2 kbps per port.
The four serial ports provide an aggregate throughput of 460.8 kbps. In addition, the documented port isolation is 500 VDC, which defines the electrical isolation rating between the relevant communication interfaces.
Ethernet Protocol Assignment
The module assigns communication functions to its two Ethernet ports according to the manufacturer’s configuration:
- NET 1: Supports Modbus TCP, TSAA, TriStation Ethernet communication and peer communication.
- NET 2: Supports the embedded OPC server.
Therefore, the two network ports serve different communication roles. This assignment is important when planning network connections and configuring external communication services.
Embedded OPC Server
The embedded OPC server allows external client applications to access process data from the Tricon system through NET 2. It supports up to 10 simultaneous clients and provides the documented OPC Data Access and Alarms and Events standards.
Furthermore, this built-in server provides an OPC communication interface without requiring a separate external OPC server for the supported functions.
