Cold Junction Compensation and Sensor Monitoring
The AAM21 processes thermocouple signals with reference junction compensation. The RJC input operates from -10 to 70 deg C, with an accuracy of +/- 1 deg C. In addition, the module provides software-selectable burnout detection in UP, DOWN, or OFF modes. The specified burnout detection current is 0.1 uA at terminal B.
The module also accepts mV signals from -50 to 150 mV and RTD inputs. Therefore, the input circuit covers both low-level voltage measurement and temperature sensor acquisition within the specified module configuration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What sensor signals does the AAM21 accept?
A: The AAM21 accepts mV, thermocouple, and RTD signals. Supported thermocouple types include K, T, J, E, B, R, S, and N.
Q: What is the AAM21 data update period?
A: The specified data update period is 100 ms.
Q: Does the AAM21 provide thermocouple burnout detection?
A: Yes. The module provides software-selectable UP, DOWN, and OFF burnout detection modes. The specified detection current is 0.1 uA at terminal B.
Field Installation Guidelines
Install the AAM21 in the specified AMN11 Nest and secure the module according to the nest installation procedure. Use the M4 screw terminals for field wiring.
Separate low-level sensor wiring from power and high-current conductors to reduce induced electrical noise. Maintain consistent polarity for mV and thermocouple connections. For shielded sensor cables, terminate the shield according to the Yokogawa system grounding design and avoid creating unintended ground loops.
Verify the selected input type before connecting the field sensor. For thermocouple circuits, use the appropriate thermocouple wiring and maintain the specified reference-junction arrangement. Check terminal tightness and wiring continuity before applying system power.
