Overview
Communication Bus Expansion
The 1769-CRL1 connects two adjacent Compact I/O banks and extends communication across the system. Its right-to-left configuration defines the connection direction and helps maintain the required bank arrangement.
Furthermore, the integrated bus lever and locking tab secure the bus connectors. The keyed covers also help prevent incorrect cable orientation during installation.
Power Supply and Expansion Requirements
The cable extends communication signals only; it does not distribute power between I/O banks. Therefore, each bank requires a separate compatible power supply.
A 1769 system supports a maximum of two expansion cables. In addition, the cable routing and connector engagement must follow the system installation requirements to maintain the correct bus connection.
Environmental and Mechanical Limits
The cable supports an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 deg C and a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 deg C. Operating humidity must remain between 5% and 95%, noncondensing, while the maximum operating altitude is 2,000 m.
For mechanical installation, the specified vibration resistance is 5 g at 10 to 500 Hz. The operating shock limits differ by mounting method: 30 g for panel mounting and 20 g for DIN-rail mounting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the function of the Allen-Bradley 1769-CRL1?
A: It connects the right side of one Compact I/O bank to the left side of the next bank, extending the communication bus between the banks.
Q: Does the 1769-CRL1 supply power to the next I/O bank?
A: No. The cable carries communication signals only. Each I/O bank requires its own compatible power supply.
Q: How many 1769-CRL1 expansion cables can a system use?
A: A 1769 system supports a maximum of two expansion cables. Check the overall system configuration and installation requirements before adding expansion banks.
