Processing and Memory Architecture
The MX220 uses a single-core AMD LX processor running at 433 MHz. Its 256 MB working memory supports application execution and data handling, while the 512 kB NVRAM retains designated data independently of normal working memory.
Furthermore, the controller provides a 64 MB integrated storage device and supports removable CompactFlash and PC Card media. These storage options allow users to manage application files and other data according to the installed hardware configuration.
I/O and Communication Interfaces
The MX220 connects to the Bachmann M200 backplane and includes an integrated process image controller. It supports cyclic and on-event single-channel access, allowing the CPU to coordinate process data exchange with connected I/O modules. A synchronization pulse also supports timing coordination between I/O and fieldbus systems.
For external communication, the controller provides two Ethernet ports with 10/100 Base-Tx connectivity. In addition, its serial interfaces support RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communication. The galvanically isolated CAN interface supports CAN, CANopen, and J1939 protocols at data rates up to 1 Mbit/s.
Programming and Control Functions
The MX220 supports IEC 61131-3 programming as well as C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink development environments. Its generic build target capability allows application projects to be developed across different controller model families.
Furthermore, supported function modules include Motion Control, Camming, CNC, and adaptive temperature control. These functions extend the controller’s application capabilities beyond basic logic execution, subject to the relevant software modules and configuration.
Status Indication and Operation
Three LEDs indicate the CPU operating states RUN, INIT, and ERR. Meanwhile, each Ethernet port has two LEDs for connection status and communication speed.
Two 16-position hexadecimal rotary switches provide hardware operating selections. For example, users can configure operating mode, programming mode, boot mode, and address settings through these switches.
